Matt Reeves, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Andy Serkis Talk Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

20th Century Fox brought Apes veteran Andy Serkis along with newbies to the franchise Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, and director Matt Reeves to the 2013 San Diego Comic Con to talk about the latest edition to the iconic Apes franchise, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Serkis reprises his role as Caesar in this sequel which is set ten years after the end of Rise of the Planet of the Apes and catches up with the ape and human population as they attempt to work out an uneasy peace.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Press Conference:

Can you talk about the specific vision for this sequel?

Matt Reeves: “It’s interesting because to me even though the movie deals with the viral apocalypse that comes from the end of the last film, the movie is not a post-apocalyptic movie. What it is is it’s a story that starts in the world of apes and you see what they’ve built. You see this kind of primitive majestic kingdom. You see a family and a way in which they come into being. Then they are thinking and wondering in this new creation, are the humans gone because it’s all from their point of view. And then not too long into the story they realize that there are still humans and it becomes a question of survival. That’s what the whole is about is how can these two populations exist and will it lead to violence. In that sense I really don’t think it’s strictly a post-apocalyptic movie; that’s just an aspect or one part of it. That’s what it looks like in the city. But it’s really much more about the nature of these two populations and whether or not they can find a way to live together.” Continue reading Matt Reeves, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Andy Serkis Talk Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Austenland Trailer

The goal of finding the perfect man seems to be the driving force for most run-of-the-mill romantic comedies, but it’s given a bit of a twist in “Austenland,” the feature debut of “Napoleon Dynamite” and “Nacho Libre” co-writer Jerusha Hess. You see, the perfect man in this movie isn’t exactly real but he is famous… he’s Mr. Darcy, the heartthrob in Jane Austen’s “Pride And Prejudice”… Really….

Based on the novel by Shannon Hall, the film is led by Keri Russell, and tells the story of an Austen/Darcy-obsessed young woman who travels to England to a full-blown theme park dedicated to the author, but of course, nothing is quite as she thought it would be. But naturally, the strings of romance are plucked and comedy and love ensues. It looks like a pretty cutesy, girls-night-out kinda flick with Russell doing her charming best. Full disclosure weren’t too fond of it at Sundance, with our man on the ground saying it’s “playful,” containing some “great comic performances,” but ultimately “it doesn’t all come together.”

‘DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES’ FIRST LOOK: HAIL CAESAR!

‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes‘ (the sequel to 2011′s surprise hit ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’) has begun filming in Louisiana and we didn’t have to wait long to get our first look at the new ape action. Director Matt Reeves tweeted out the first photo from the set this morning and shows us Caesar and his monkey friends have taken a big evolutionary step forward.

‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ stars Andy Serkis as Caesar who’s joined by Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo and Judy Greer. Director Matt Reeves (‘Cloverfield’ and ‘Let Me In’) takes over from Rupert Wyatt who didn’t return for the sequel after “creative differences” with the studio.

In this photo, first tweeted by Reeves with the note “A New Dawn…” shows Caesar has learned how to ride a horse and, along with another ape, looks to be rounding up and talking (yes, talking) to some of the surviving humans. That’s Jason Clarke out in front and you can see Keri Russell off in the back.

According to Fox, ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ goes like this:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Considering the movie is called ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ we’re going to go out on a limb and say that humans aren’t going to win that war on who is Earth’s dominant species.

‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ hits theaters on May 23, 2014.

Keri Russell Boards ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’

Keri Russell has been cast in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which will reunite her with Felicity co-creator Matt Reeves.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Russell, who stars on FX’s freshman spy drama The Americans, will take the lead female role in Fox’s sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which Reeves will direct. Already on board to star are Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

While much of the plot has been kept under wraps, the film is set 15 years after the events of the hit 2011 film. It follows Caesar (Serkis), the intelligent ape who is trying to maintain dominance over his kingdom, and the scientists struggling to survive in San Francisco.

Peter Chernin, Dylan Clarke, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa are producing the movie, which is working off a script by Mark Bomback. It’s set for release May 23, 2014.

Russell came to fame as the titular character on TV series Felicity, which ran from 1998 to 2002 on the WB Network and garnered her a Golden Globe. Before The Americans, she starred opposite Will Arnett on the Fox comedy Running Wilde, which ran for 13 episodes. She recently starred in horror pic Dark Skies.

Russell is repped by WME and the Burstein Co.
