WonderCon 2014: Gary Oldman & Keri Russell on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

I didn’t realize Gary Oldman speaks so slowly. That accounts for the brevity of this interview, but I was indeed speaking with Oldman and Keri Russell at WonderCon for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Hey, I’ll eat up my time listening to Gary Oldman talk. Let’s call it deliberate. As Troy McClure’s agent would say, these acclaimed actors play…. the humans. Ellie (Russell) and Dreyfus (Oldman) are survivors of the epidemic that wiped out most of humanity, and they are about to witness Caesar (Andy Serkis) bring the apes to power.

CraveOnline: Is a harmonious existence between humans and apes out of the question?

Keri Russell: Well, I think that’s the question of this film. No, and I think this moment there’s hope for it. This moment, that’s what we’re asking. Could it happen? Continue reading WonderCon 2014: Gary Oldman & Keri Russell on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Limited-edition WonderCon exclusive Dawn of the Planet of the Apes prints illustrated by Garry Brown (The Massive, Sons of Anarchy) will be available for purchase for $20, and the cast will be available to sign them from 2:30-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the BOOM! Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is about a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar that is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Twentieth Century Fox will release Dawn of the Planet of the Apes worldwide July 11th, 2014. For more information, visit dawnofapes.com.

Keri on the cover of Malibu magazine

Keri is on the cover of Malibu magazine’s May 2014 issue. Anyone is able to scan it for us?

Here is what the 38-year-old The Americans actress had to share with the mag:

On why her series works so well: “At its best, when the show and the writing and everything are really working, I think it’s so interesting. Anyone who’s been in a relationship longer than two years, married or not — or even a business partnership — [knows that] relationships are so complicated. I love the idea that they didn’t know each other, and that they’re in this marriage, which essentially is not real [but] then they do end up falling in love. [The show explores] how that is, for people who’ve known each other for so long, [to] then slowly fall in love with each other and how that affects their work.”

On her days of standing in audition lines: “I remember auditioning for Felicity, and all of us were standing outside. We were all 20 years old, standing in these big lines, and I remember one girl saying, ‘It’s so sad. Everything about it is so sad.’ And I remember thinking, ‘I think it’s so funny.’ It’s sad to her, but it’s really ridiculous what she’s doing.”

On starting out in the Mickey Mouse Club: “[I was] pretty bad. Don’t be deceived by the Mickey Mouse Club; there were a lot of shenanigans happening. I won’t speak for others, but I had my moments for sure.”
