EW First Look: Exclusive Sneak Peek at 2016’s Hottest TV Shows

The Americans (March, FX)

Season 4 of FX’s thriller about undercover KGB agents Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell) picks up right in the heat of President Reagan’s infamous 1983 “Star Wars” defense program. “A lot of people refer to this exact period as one of the tensest in the Cold War,” says EP Joel Fields. “Philip and Elizabeth are going to be in the middle of some of the most dangerous operations that, interestingly, were not playing out in the headlines but were happening behind the scenes and didn’t come out until after the Cold War was over.”

Say hello to Patty, Elizabeth’s new undercover identity. If she’s giving you major “Mary Kay lady” vibes, that’s because Elizabeth’s cover is exactly that — a single career woman looking to make an extra dollar. “It’s a different ’80s perspective than we’ve explored before,” creator Joe Weisberg says of “Patty,” who will remind Elizabeth of the rules of both cosmetics and espionage when she forms a dangerously real bond with recurring guest star Ruthie Ann Miles.
