Austenland Gets Keri Russell and Bret McKenzie

Keri Russell, Bret McKenzie, and JJ Feild have all signed on to star in Austenland, which will serve as the directorial debut of Jerusha Hess (Napoleon Dynamite).

The story is based on the novel by Shannon Hale, who co-wrote the screenplay adaptation with Jerusha Hess. Austenland centers on a thirtysomething woman who is obsessed with the Mr. Darcy character in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, particularly Colin Firth’s portrayal of the character in the 1995 BBC mini-series adaptation. Her life is in the doldrums because she cannot find a real man who matches up to Mr. Darcy. When she takes a trip to a resort which caters to those obsessed with Jane Austen’s work, she realizes her fantasy of meeting a regal man just may come true.

Keri Russell is playing the single woman, while JJ Feild is playing a Mr. Darcy actor at this Austenland resort. The cast also includes Jennifer Coolidge portraying a cruel vacationer, along with Jane Seymour, Rupert Vansittart, and James Callis.

Production begins this week in the United Kingdom.

‘Felicity’ actress in talks to star with Will Arnett in Fox comedy

Keri Russell is mulling a return to television. The “Felicity” star is in negotiations to star opposite Will Arnett in Fox’s comedy “Wilde Kingdom.”

“Wilde,” from Lionsgate and Tantamount, stars Arnett as a Beverly Hills jackass who falls in love with a charitable tree-hugging woman (Russell) who can’t stand his lifestyle or values.

“Arrested Development” creator Mitch Hurwitz is directing the single-camera pilot, which he co-penned with Arnett and “Development” writer-producer Jim Vallely. Lionsgate and Tantamount are producing.

After her star-making turn as the lead on J.J. Abrams’ series “Felicity” at WB Network, Russell was heavily pursued for pilots but focused on features, including roles in Abrams’ “Mission: Impossible III” and the indie “Waitress.”

She showed her comedic chops in 2007 during a two-episode stint on “Scrubs.”

Russell, repped by WME, manager Joannie Burstein and attorney Robert Offer, most recently co-starred in the feature drama “Extraordinary Measures.”
