What Scares ‘Dark Skies’ Star Keri Russell?

Do bumps in the night scare Keri Russell? The Dark Skies star is a self-confessed “scaredy cat” and tells ET that despite being jumpy, “There is something thrilling about being scared.”

“I guess I don’t see a lot of scary movies because I get scared so easy, but … going to a scary movie is so fun,” she tells ET. “You know what’s about to happen – it’s terrifying and exciting and good all at once, and it was so fun to go [to this movie] with my girlfriends and they screamed at all the right places.”

In theaters Friday, Dark Skies stars Keri and Josh Hamilton as suburban parents whose safe, secure existence is shattered by a supernatural force. As they witness an escalating series of disturbing events involving their family, skepticism of an abusive household grows around them, and soon they must take matters in their own hands to protect their family and solve the mystery of what is after them.

“Wild imagination helps with [watching] these movies,” adds Keri.

Watch the video to see how the Dark Skies star (who also headlines The Americans on FX) manages to balance work and motherhood. Is there a secret?

Q&A: Keri Russell talks on-screen oral sex and what it’s like to play a Russian spy on The Americans

When she was 15 years old, Keri Russell was cast on the All-New Mickey Mouse Club. For the next three years, the fresh-faced youngster came of age alongside Ryan Gosling, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, forming the base of what could retroactively be described as the modern American pop culture landscape. All of which makes Russell’s latest foray into that culture so intriguing.

Twenty years after she landed America’s signature kids program, Russell is playing Elisabeth Jennings, a Cold War-era Washington D.C. Stepford wife who leads a double life as a KGB spy. As if to hammer the point home, the new FX series The Americans opens with Russell, best known as the soft-hearted Felicity in the romantic dramedy series of the same name, performing fellatio on an unsuspecting American target.

The Mickey Mouse Club, it certainly is not.

We caught up with Russell to discuss her return to dramatic television, memories of the Cold War and her most sexually graphic role to date. Continue reading Q&A: Keri Russell talks on-screen oral sex and what it’s like to play a Russian spy on The Americans

Clips from Dark Skies

With just a few days until its release, Dimension Films has unveiled five short clips from the upcoming thriller “Dark Skies.”

“Dark Skies” follows the trials of a normal, happy family, the Barretts, after they are targeted by a malevolent force – which has its own dark plans for them. When strange and bizarre things begin to happen to them, their paranoia and fear begin to isolate them from their friends and loved ones.

When an expert is called in to help, he says he has dealt with similar situations before and that there is no hope for escape; once you have been chosen, it’s too late. With a fighting spirit, they take a stand to defend and save the ones they love, but how can you combat a force you do not understand?

Some of these clips we have seen parts of in the trailer (you can see it HERE), but overall they are just expanding on the creepiness and thrilling nature of the film. The clips set up the beginning of the strange occurrences in the Barrett’s house.

In the first clip, Lacey (Keri Russell) awakens to hear a strange noise in one of her boy’s rooms and goes to investigate only to be startled by a shadowy figure in the dark. But did she just imagine it? The clip is so dark I couldn’t really see a thing, but I have a feeling that it is on purpose and the entire film will tease us by hiding the actual aliens until near the very end. Questions and Answers With Keri Russell

It’s time to get past the haircut. Keri Russell certainly has.

In fact, the former “Felicity” star has moved so far beyond her famous pixie cut that she’s now realizing that there’s something else out there — namely, aliens. That’s right, Russell’s latest project is the sci-fi/horror film “Dark Skies.” She plays a mother under siege from all angles: financial, familial and supernatural. When strange things start happening, such as her youngest son claiming visits from “the sandman,” unexplained items moving inexplicably throughout the house and scary episodes she can’t remember, Russell’s character takes matters into her own hands, to thrilling result.

NextMovie sat down with Russell in New York City ahead of the movie to discuss her thoughts on aliens, the time she almost drowned while hanging out with Anthony Kiedis and, yes, the haircut. Continue reading Questions and Answers With Keri Russell

Keri Russell has had quite a varied career already, performing in things from the teen angsty Felicity to the short-lived sitcom Running Wilde to now getting to do the action thing with FX’s The Americans. Russell stars in the new film Dark Skies, about a suburban family targeted by malevolent forces from another world. She spoke to us about what drew her to the film, what it was like to work with the film’s younger cast members, and the freedom inherent with doing low-budget films.
