Keri Russell wants ‘The Americans’ Season 3 to concentrate on Philip and Elizabeth’s relationship

“The Americans” hasn’t yet completed its second season, but FX already picked up the Cold War spy drama for Season 3. While promoting her new movie “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” at WonderCon Anaheim 2014, star Keri Russell says she’d like to see the series go back to basics in 2015.

“My favorite is when it’s concentrated on the relationship and it’s really a metaphor for marriage. That’s my favorite way,” she tells Zap2it on the red carpet. “I love the spy stuff, I love the way it raises the stakes and complicates the weird relationship, but I like the marriage stuff.”

Between her work on “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and her commitment to “The Americans,” Russell had a busy year. She says she plans to spend the summer relaxing before getting back into character as Elizabeth Jennings.

“I want to just spend the summer not working at all. I want to take my kids to school and pick them up, and I want to travel anywhere, any time, so any friend that’s going somewhere, I want to go, and then work again in the fall,” she says.

“The Americans” Season 2 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.

Sneak Peek: 2014’s World’s Most Beautiful List

Age – 38, in this case – is just a number for Russell, who doesn’t let the passing years hold her back. “I feel that my girlfriends look better now than they ever did,” she told T Magazine. “Everything just works. I do secretly want my 21-year-old butt back. But other than that, I like being here, this age.”

I didn’t realize Gary Oldman speaks so slowly. That accounts for the brevity of this interview, but I was indeed speaking with Oldman and Keri Russell at WonderCon for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Hey, I’ll eat up my time listening to Gary Oldman talk. Let’s call it deliberate. As Troy McClure’s agent would say, these acclaimed actors play…. the humans. ‘DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES’ CAST AT WONDERCON

Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is pleased to announce that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes cast members Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises, The Dark Knight) and Keri Russell (The Americans, Felicity), along with film director Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Felicity), will make an exclusive signing appearance at the BOOM! Studios booth during WonderCon in Anaheim, California, on Saturday, April 19. BOOM! Studios is the official publisher of Planet of the Apes comics.

Limited-edition WonderCon exclusive Dawn of the Planet of the Apes prints illustrated by Garry Brown (The Massive, Sons of Anarchy) will be available for purchase for $20, and the cast will be available to sign them from 2:30-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the BOOM! Studios booth, #319, at the Anaheim Convention Center. The signing will be ticketed and a print purchase is required for the signing.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is about a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar that is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
