Will Arnett and Keri Russell return to series TV this fall — and ET is with the new FOX comedy couple at their photo shoot for “Running Wilde.”
In “Running Wilde,” Steve Wilde (Arnett) is an immature, multi-millionaire playboy who has dreams of getting the one thing he can’t have: the woman of his dreams, Emmy (Russell).
“[Emmy] has been going out and giving herself to all these causes around the world and at the heart of it, on a personal level, she is selfish,” Will, who is also a producer on the series, tells ET. “Then there is [Steve], who seemingly has it all and potentially is a jerk, but actually is really good and not selfish and generous to the people around him. That dichotomy is interesting.”
Will describes his character as a bit Arthur (think Dudley Moore, not King Arthur), a bit boy-in-the-bubble, and, possibly a bit Richie Rich. Emmy is a do-gooder, who rejects everything that Steve stands for.
“I play an activist who, when the show starts [is] living in the Amazon with a tribe and trying to save their culture and, basically, I am reunited with this buffoon,” Keri jokes. “Although, we have many differences, there is still a connection from the history we had when we were younger.”
The series is told from the POV of Emmy’s 12-year-old daughter, Puddle (Stefania Owen), who also provides narration. It is Puddle’s refusal to return to the Amazon that really is the reason that Emmy is forced to turn to Steve for help.
“Running Wilde” premieres Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 9:30 p.m. on FOX.
